Call of Duty 2022: the new engine of Modern Warfare 2
Following the official announcement of Modern Warfare 2, Infinity Ward also confirmed that the Call of Duty 2022 title will be built on an all-new engine, which the company “has been working on for years.”
This new engine is intended to overhaul the mechanics of the vehicle, introduce swimming, and make changes to movement. The developers have also confirmed that they will use it to lay the groundwork for a “new Warzone experience” in Warzone 2.
Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 Maps
The two leakers RalphsValve and Tom Henderson claim that the classic maps of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) will arrive in CoD 2022.
In a video covering everything known about CoD 2022 so far, Henderson said these maps were pulled from Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, of which only the campaign was released.
RalphsValve has leaked five maps players can expect to see in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. These are some of the most popular in the entire series and we may see them return.
Here are the Modern Warfare 2 returning maps:
- favela
- Round
- Dispatch
- Terminal
- Career
favela would pit players against each other in enclosed spaces while Terminal provided excellent sniping opportunities for Call of Duty players during long-range combat situations.
Round led to tons of scopeless 360 edits and spawned several world famous CoD clans and Dispatch is so popular that it still currently features in titles like Call of Duty: Vanguard.
According to a report from industry insider Tom Henderson, these maps should be coming to Warzone 2, but they might not be available when the sequel launches. Instead, players may have to wait for them to be added later.
Henderson said it’s possible these maps will show up in future seasons even if they aren’t available at launch. However, these are currently just leaks, and we may see entirely different maps added in the final game once it arrives.
While the above maps are rumored to be for MW2, you can take a look at all the confirmed maps so far in our guide.
Call of Duty 2022 Warzone 2 integration
Activision has officially confirmed that Warzone 2 will be an all-new game separate from Warzone. The all-new Warzone experience will feature “new Modern Warfare II content and systems with all-new progression,” resetting Warzone player inventories.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game modes
DMZ
Leakers such as Tom Henderson have claimed that Modern Warfare 2 will come with a whole new game mode – DMZ. While we don’t know exactly what the game mode will entail, the leaker described the mode as “Escape From Tarkov’s version of MWII.”
Henderson believes the mode will be in development for over four years by the time Modern Warfare 2 releases, and you’ll travel to multiple locations and have to loot houses, buildings, vehicles, crates, and abandoned corpses. He also said the area is made up of maps from the original MW2 which act as points of interest.
Reputable leaker TheGhostOfHope also hinted that comparisons between this brand new Modern Warfare 2 game mode and Battlestate Games’ Escape From Tarkov are accurate.
TheGhostOfHope also claims that DMZ has at least 4 different maps that are currently being worked on. All of these maps are unique in their design, with some being open-world while others are more linear.
In that same tweet, the Call of Duty leaker said, “The Warzone 2 map is entirely separate and not connected to DMZ in any way.”
Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ would also have a market where players can buy and sell items. When you enter this game mode, you can head to the market to “win skins, blueprints, and more.”
At the time of this writing, it’s unclear if this marketplace will require players to spend CoD Points or if the developers will introduce an entirely new in-game currency for use.
Rescue of prisoners
Prisoner Rescue is a brand new CoD multiplayer mode that Rainbow Six Seige players will be very familiar with.
The teams are split into attack and defense, much like Search and Destroy, and the attackers are tasked with rescuing the hostages and extracting them from the building, while the defenders try to protect them from the insurgents.
knock out
Modern Warfare 2 will also bring Knockout, another new game mode to the Call of Duty franchise.
Inspired by Modern Warfare’s Gunfight (2019), Knockout is a 6v6 game mode where players have only one life.
You can revive your teammates in this mode if they are downed, but once all team members have been killed, the round ends. The main objective in this mode is for teams to hold a package. Teams will battle for control of this package for victory.
Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 SBMM Rework
Skill-based matchmaking has been one of the most controversial aspects of Call of Duty titles, and a report from CoD leaker ‘RalphsValve’ claims the devs may be aiming to overhaul SBMM to be “less debilitating”. in Modern Warfare 2.
According to this leak, the developers are aiming to make games less strict, but Modern Warfare 2 might still retain the controversial feature of disbanding lobbies after each game ends.
RalphsValve’s source claims that the new SBMM revamp will be less punishing for higher-skilled players and low-skilled players will be able to enjoy fair games with opponents of a similar rating.
The source also added that Bot Pools could be integrated into both Warzone 2 and the DMZ mode for players who find the game too difficult. Dissolved lobbies will not be deleted from the SBMM system.
Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 perk changes and Last Stand return
Call of Duty leaker ‘TheGhostOfHope’ claims that the perk system will receive a major change in Modern Warfare 2 that will allow players to choose four perks instead of the traditional three.
The leaker also claimed that the Last Stand Perk would return, allowing players to be downed with their pistol before dying. However, it will now act as a field upgrade rather than a perk.
Call of Duty 2022: the return of the advantages of Modern Warfare 2 Pro
On May 20, Tom Henderson claimed that Pro Perks were part of recent Warzone 2 playtests. They were higher versions of the standard perks from the first Modern Warfare 2.
While these are expected to appear in Warzone, the industry insider claimed that they could also be heading to MW2 multiplayer as a shared feature. However, they may not be available to use when you load up and you may need to loot them during a match.
Call of Duty 2022: Modern Warfare 2 platforms
Activision has officially confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will launch on the following platforms:
- PS5
- PS4
- Xbox series X/S
- Xbox One
- PC Battle.net
- PC Vapor
PC gamers will be able to download Modern Warfare 2 via Steam after the franchise took a 5-year hiatus from the platform. Modern Warfare 2 on last-gen consoles will likely be downgraded to improve performance.
